Tempo Therapeutics is a therapeutic device company creating innovative material science solutions for tissue engineering in regenerative medicine with our patent-protected MAP synthetic materials to build new functional tissue in patients and improve outcomes 10-fold over current available products.
Meet Tempo Therapeutics
Why is your company the best option to solve the problem you're solving?
Our MAP technology makes Tempo the best option to solve the problem of tissue regeneration. MAP has unique properties of immune privilege, which enables Tempo to create injectable implants that are accepted and integrated into the body, rather than rejected. This core capability provides unique competitive advantage and the ability to achieve therapeutic outcomes that no other material technology can. Tempo is the sole provider of MAP-enabled implants, and will change the way that tissue engineering affects medical treatment across many areas of medicine.
What nuggets of info make you interesting? Why do people care about what you're doing?
Our company builds on a long standing tradition of tissue engineering innovation in San Diego. One of the first companies to develop tissue engineering technology - Advanced Tissue Sciences, was born and built in San Diego. Even the term "Tissue Engineering" was coined by a UCSD professor in the mid 1980's. We are taking Tissue Engineering to the next level with our core MAP technology, and can work with the San Diego companies operating in 3D Printing, stem cell technology, and pharmaceuticals to accelerate product development.
What else do you want us to know?
We are a spin out from UCLA, formed by scientists, engineers, and physicians - all dedicated to the core task of seeing MAP-enabled products reach patients and change their lives for the better. We have been able to build a strong team here in San Diego, - bringing in expertise in management and product development from San Diego's strong talent pool. We are centralized around a core technology that we all believe in, and are exploring where this technology can add value in all verticals of medicine.
BEHIND THE COMPANY
CEO/Founder: Westbrook Weaver

What is your company's secret sauce?
A combination of technology capability (immune privilege) and patent protection around the MAP technology.
What inspired you to start/run this company?
I was a scientist in academia when we invented the core technology that Tempo is now based upon. I decided to leave academia and start Tempo because I wanted to see something real come from our work - something that could actually positively affect a patient's life. That is my mission, and remains my central ethos to this day.
What sets your company culture apart?
We all come from a technical background, even our management team (who also have many years of life science management under our belts). This helps us focus on our core values of scientific rigor to support robust product development, and centralize around a core technology that can have many product opportunities through medicine.
