Why is your company the best option to solve the problem you're solving?
There are over one billion professionally installed cameras worldwide (IHS), yet less than 1% of these feeds are analyzed, most streams are recorded with any structure, indexing, to search for events. This is Dark Data according to Gartner. Realwave starts with a Cloud-Native platform that analyzes almost any legacy and new camera feed to automatically find and tag interesting events using our algorithms. Realwave is the first firm to provide a solution for Dark Data by embedding Deep Learning at the Edge to analyze surveillance video and related operational data to learn, tag, and alert on operational exceptions.
What nuggets of info make you interesting? Why do people care about what you're doing?
The Video Surveillance market is over $40 Billion and experiencing rapid growth (14%-17%+ CAGR) due to lower-cost cameras, video analytics, and rising security concerns throughout the world. However, 5G, Internet of Things, Cloud Adoption, and Artificial Intelligence have the potential to drive the market higher and faster than analyst projects. San Diego has growing robotics, image processing, and video streaming technology base for Realwave to leverage and bolster in an effort to meet this potential.
What else do you want us to know?
Video Surveillance is a very mature market where the market participants place a low value on the product due to the manual effort in extracting intelligence--think CRM before Salesforce (Cloud CRM). There is a HUGE shift underway for the simple benefit of being able to stream, search, and share video as simply as YouTube. Realwave is driven to provide this seemingly simple market request along with its greater mission.

What one book, podcast, newsletter, etc. do you recommend to other entrepreneurs? Why?
The recent book by John Chambers, Connecting the Dots. I've admired the dominance of Cisco for years. This book provides many pivotal insights that led to Cisco's position.
What is your company's secret sauce?
Being able to combine enterprise-class software development, tenured experience video surveillance Industry and a solid vision of how the industry is transforming has created the 'secret sauce'. Our sustainable path is built on four key transitions starting with secure video access and exception monitoring to gain customer partnerships to develop AI skillsets and an industry-leading in-store data set that will be used to drive higher value direct and syndicated services.
What inspired you to start/run this company?
In the 1990's I was embarrassed about selling video surveillance because of how little value users truly received from their investment. In 1997, I witnessed the first Facial Recognition system and started to see a new path the video analytics could pave for Automated Surveillance. A little over twenty years later the market and infrastructure are ready for video automation.
What's the best entrepreneurial advice you've received?
Nothing happens until something sells. Go sell something. Money and resources chase winners.
What's the worst entrepreneurial advice you've received?
Don't do it, nobody wants their surveillance video in the cloud.
