He published the first textbook on genomics entitled, Genomics: The Science and Technology of the Human Genome Project.
“Big Data. Big Dilemma”
Stephen Coggeshall, Ph.D., Chief Analytics and Science Officer, ID Analytics
While the benefits of big data analytics are significant, the potential for unintended consequences is also considerable. The ubiquitous nature of certain technologies (e.g. smartphones, wearables, and online datastreams) that collect a myriad of data continues to substantially increase prediction accuracy. But with these life-changing advancements come real-world implications: What uses of technology are ethical – or not—when it comes to big data? We are facing growing dilemmas of what we can, may and should do. In a thought-provoking presentation, Dr. Stephen Coggeshall will share his perspective on the emerging collision of possibilities and ethics in the era of massive information gathering.
Dr. Coggeshall has spent his 20-plus year career leading scientists to build practical solutions to difficult business problems using advanced analytics. He was Group Vice President of the technology development organization at HNC Software, one of the pioneers in predictive analytics. He also spent 11 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the field of laser fusion. He has an M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.
