Fourth quarter totals better than a year ago
Venture capital flowing into San Diego’s young companies ticked up in the fourth quarter, with information technology firms making gains in funding.
Two reports released today showed San Diego startups ending the year on a high note. The Money Tree report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association pegged fourth-quarter venture capital funding in the county at $269 million in 23 companies — up from $225 million in 32 companies in the same period of 2010.
The Dow Jones Venture Source report, which is affiliated with Ernst & Young, had higher fourth-quarter venture capital totals for San Diego at $377.5 million in 18 deals. The difference is linked mostly to the timing of when certain investments are reported.
Though the reports had different funding totals, they pinpointed similar trends for venture capital funding this year.
