SAN DIEGO – April 6, 2011 Renowned venture capitalist and successful entrepreneur David Titus joins the San Diego Venture Group as its first, full-time President.
He will be responsible for leading the premier, 25-year old organization to a new level of engagement with the investment community in support of the region’s entrepreneurs.
“I am honored to be joining the Venture Group, and look forward to fully supporting its long-standing mission to promote the formation and funding of innovative new ventures in the San Diego area, to educate their business owners in strategies for obtaining funding and developing their corporations, and to promote the region’s venture capital and entrepreneurial communities here at home and around the nation,” said Titus. “The organization has grown from being a gathering place for a handful of folks to one that consistently draws between 300 and 600 people at every event. The opportunities ahead of us are limited only by our own creativity and initiative. I look forward to what we can do together!”
Titus will report to San Diego Venture Group’s Board of Directors who will continue to act in a strategic advisory capacity.
“Dave brings a wealth of experience in leading organizations that foster positive interactions to increase economic opportunities for its members, and his hire is a natural evolution for us,” said Steve Stuckey, Chairman of the San Diego Venture Group’s Board of Directors. “With more than 20 years in the San Diego business community, he is well connected and respected within our region. Dave also has extensive experience in being part of the leadership of such prominent non-profit business groups as the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, CONNECT and the Western Association of Venture Capitalists. We’re excited to have him onboard in this strategic capacity.”
“Having David Titus onboard for the San Diego Venture Group will be tremendously impactful for the San Diego innovation sector,” said John Otterson, a partner with SVB Capital and member of the Venture Group’s Board of Advisors. “His know-how and rolodex, derived from nearly three decades as a technology banker, venture debt provider and venture capitalist, will be an asset to the Venture Group as well as the community it serves.”
Titus is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Windward Ventures. Since 1997, Windward Ventures has invested in 24 Southern California early stage technology companies, of which five remain active. Currently, he is board representative to three of these companies and Chairman of one additional private company. Since January 2010 Titus has served as the Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation and will continue as a special advisor to the organization. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of CONNECT and former officer of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists.
“The San Diego Venture Group has evolved into the premier place where investors, entrepreneurs and advisors come together to foster innovation and economic opportunity in the region,” said Leo Spiegel, Managing Partners of Mission Ventures and long-standing San Diego Venture Group board member. “As such, we recognized the time had come to create a full-time President position to ensure that the organization meets the needs of our constituents now and well into the future. There is no better person than Dave Titus to take on this role!”
