Meet the Speakers

Matt Highfield
Matt Highfield is a Managing Director in Deloitte Consulting’s Real Estate & Location Strategy practice, and is responsible for leading the North American Location Strategy team. Over a 21+ year consulting career, Matt has assisted some of the world’s best known organizations and business leaders navigate complex location selection, footprint optimization and global talent sourcing challenges. Matt bring his clients cross industry expertise and field experience in over 30 countries across the globe. With a strong focus on manufacturing, Matt’s expertise extends to a broad spectrum of corporate functions including Distribution, Research & Development, Customer Care, and has consulted across a broad array of industries including: Consumer Business, Energy, Financial Services, Life Sciences, Automotive, Retail, Technology, Process Manufacturing. Matt has an MA in Applied Geography from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a BA in Geography from Macalester College.

Gaurav Charaya
Gaurav Charaya is a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting’s Real Estate & Location Strategy practice. His work involves developing holistic solutions that integrate people, work processes, technology, and place. He has worked directly with senior management by helping them make better decisions about how they support their people, position their businesses, and manage their performance. He has over 15 years of experience in evidence-based development and implementation of business strategies, and a proven track record for delivering value to organizations through the high-performance workplace, innovation, and experiential design. His interests have taken him around the world and he has worked on projects in the US, UK, Germany, India, China, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. Gaurav has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Businesses, a Master’s in Planning and Real Estate from Cornell University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology.

Bruce Rucks
Bruce Rucks is an Audit & Assurance partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Bruce serves health sciences clients, with a focus on life science companies. Bruce is the leader of Deloitte’s San Diego Life Sciences Audit practice and the Accounting and Reporting Advisory practice. Bruce has 18 years of public accounting experience, throughout which he has served a variety of clients in the life sciences industry, including diagnostics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies as well as health care providers. Bruce’s clients have filled the entire spectrum of company maturity, from Fortune 100 and multi-national companies to closely held emerging growth pre-IPO businesses. Bruce has assisted clients with new product commercialization, international expansion, IPO proceedings, acquisition due diligence, and SEC filings. Bruce is also a member of the national Deloitte Life Sciences industry practice. His responsibilities include consulting with engagement teams on industry-specific accounting and auditing matters, communicating emerging accounting and auditing issues within the Deloitte Life Sciences practice, and developing and delivering life sciences trainings/materials and literature for distribution internally and externally. Finally, Bruce leads Deloitte’s national Life Sciences IPO Center of Excellence assisting life sciences companies in preparing and executing Initial Public Offerings. Bruce obtained his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Accountancy Degrees from the University of Illinois.

Kevin Conrad
Kevin Conradis an Audit & Assurance Senior Manager with Deloitte & Touche LLP. He focuses on life sciences companies in the San Diego marketplace with an emphasis on early-stage emerging growth companies through mid-market public companies with deep experience in SEC reporting matters, IPO process and navigating successful exits, complex financing transactions, share-based compensation. He brings observations and insights from serving clients in that space focusing on biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies.
Kevin’s clients have focused on early and developing-stage life sciences companies working up to and through their first exits via IPO. Kevin has assisted with new product commercialization, IPO proceedings, SEC filings, and acquisitions. Kevin serves the Industry Professional Practice Director for Life Sciences at Deloitte & Touche LLP involved with analyzing, responding, and communicating industry accounting and reporting matters both internally and externally, including trainings and published materials. Kevin obtained his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of San Francisco.
