High School Internship Program

The CONNECT internship program provides opportunities to inspire high school students to work in the field of computer science and programming. Interns will be matched with a host company for a 6 week long internship held June 17-July 26, 2013. This is a 6 week, unpaid internship and requires 15-20 of work Monday-Friday. At the conclusion of the internship, students will present a summary of their work experience to the CONNECT community.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be San Diego County residents and have completed their most recent semester of high school at a public or private high school within San Diego County.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 16 -21 years old on or before June 17, 2013.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year each of high school level computer science.
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • Applicants must be able to commit to 20 hrs/wk for the duration of the program.
  • Applicants under 18 must submit a blank work permit application (available from your high school career center).
  • Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation.
  • A special emphasis is placed on identifying and recruiting students from groups that are historically underrepresented in the sciences (i.e., African-American, Hispanic, Native Pacific Islander, or Native American students).

Completed applications and supporting documentation  must be provided as a single packet postmarked by FRIDAY, March 29, 2013.

 

Internship Timeline:

  • January 14: Internship applications will be available
  • March 29: Internship application due
  • April-May: Review student applications and conduct student interviews
  • May 17: Final selection of interns
  • June 17: Internship begins
  • July 26: Internship ends
